Our First Month: Why We Started, Where We’re Going

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a month since we launched Space Between Us. In some ways, it feels like only yesterday that we were putting the finishing touches on our website and unpacking boxes in our new room at the Business Hive. In other ways, the last few weeks have been so full of firsts, of new beginnings, and of meaningful conversations, that it feels like we’ve been here much longer.
This first month has been a reminder of why we started: to create a counselling service that feels human, down to earth, and accessible. To offer a space where people feel seen and heard without judgement. To hold onto the belief that healing happens in the space between us.
Why We Started
At the heart of Space Between Us is a simple idea: therapy should feel human. Too often, people tell us that counselling can feel clinical, intimidating, or like there’s a “right way” to do it. We wanted to create something different; a service where the relationship comes first, where warmth and accessibility sit alongside professional care.
We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to explore life’s challenges. Whether it’s grief, anxiety, or the weight of everyday stress, our mission is to make support available in a way that feels approachable, kind, and connected.
Highlights from Month One
This first month has been full of milestones. Moving into the E-Factor Business Hive in Grimsby has been a huge step, not only giving us a beautiful, professional space, but also surrounding us with a community of other local startups. We’re grateful to E-Factor and to Paul Slade for their ongoing support.
We’ve also been settling into our new counselling room. With fresh soft furnishings, thoughtful touches, and a lot of care, we’ve created a space designed to feel calm and welcoming; somewhere people can relax into the process of therapy.
And then there’s been the response online. Our first posts about grief have been seen by thousands, sparking heartfelt comments and conversations from people who know what it is to carry loss. To see such engagement, so early, has reminded us of the power of connection and why we’re here.
The Power of Poetry in Healing

This month has also been a reminder of how powerful words can be. In therapy, the right words, spoken aloud, shared with another person, or even written down, can help us make sense of feelings that are otherwise hard to name.
Poetry, in particular, has a way of reaching into our emotional world and capturing it in a form that resonates. It can distil complex experiences; numbness, sadness, grief, even love, into something that feels recognisable and human.
We’re proud to share the work of our own Daisy Wren River (Kirstie’s pen name), whose poetry speaks to these themes. Her words remind us that, whatever we’re going through, we are not alone.
Have You
by Daisy Wren River
Have you ever felt numb
Just nothing at all
Like your body is there in spirit
But not in person
Have you ever felt sad
The feeling in your gut
Swirling and yet empty
Like a merry-go-round without a horse
Have you ever felt grief
Travelling through your soul
Like waves crashing into the shore
Then disappearing back into the sea
Have you ever felt love
The kind that makes your heart skip a beat
And your soul dance
Even when there is no music
I have….

Where We’re Going

Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue growing both our face-to-face and online sessions, so that therapy can be accessible wherever people are. We’ll keep sharing practical, compassionate content around grief, values, and connection; topics that sit at the heart of what we do.
Our vision isn’t just about numbers or growth. It’s about creating real relationships and making an impact, one conversation at a time. We’re committed to staying true to our values as we expand, always remembering that the most important work happens in the quiet moments between people.
